Found something that actually helped

So I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on since this all kicked off in March. Most of it’s useless self-help garbage that doesn’t get what we’re dealing with.

But someone on here mentioned Amy Baker’s “Adult Children of Parental Alienation” and jesus christ. I mean I bought it for me obviously but reading about what the kids go through… it’s heartbreaking but also explains so much about what I’m seeing in my 12 year old.

There’s this bit about how alienated kids feel guilty for missing the targeted parent but can’t show it. Made me think of how Jake used to look at me during those awful supervised visits before contact stopped completely. Like he wanted to hug me but couldn’t.

It’s not a magic fix or anything. Still haven’t heard from him in 4 months. But at least I understand better what’s happening in his head. And there’s bits about adult children who work their way out of it eventually which… I need to believe that right now

Got it on Kindle so the ex can’t see it if Jake’s with me. Stupid thing to worry about but you know how it is

Anyone else read this one?

God, that bit about the guilty look - that’s exactly what I see in the twins’ photos on social media when someone else posts them. that same conflicted expression.

Jake’s only 12, he’ll remember you x
